The purpose of the Source Water Protection Award is to recognize and encourage leadership, innovation, and dedication to source water protection. Awards will be given annually. The 2001 award was presented to the Town of Stanley in Page County. The 2002 award was presented to James City Service Authority for their innovative well abandonment program called "Cap It". The 2003 award was presented to Shenandoah County Water Resources Advisory Committee for taking special initiatives to protect the drinking water sources for residents of Shenandoah County. The 2004 award was presented to Amherst County. The 2005 award was presented to the Town of Luray in Page County.
