Wellhead Protection Plan Program Status

Groundwater Sources of Small Community Groundwater Waterworks in Central and Western Virginia through the VDH Wellhead Protection Program
Several Small Community Groundwater Waterworks have developed Wellhead Protection Plans through the VDH Program including:
- Beacon Hill Subdivision (Loudoun County Sanitation Authority)
- Lenah Farms Subdivision (Loudoun County Sanitation Authority)
- Raspberry Falls Subdivision (Loudoun County Sanitation Authority)
Several Other Small Community Groundwater Waterworks are in the process of developing Wellhead Protection Plans through the VDH Program including:
- Lucketts Mobile Home Park
- Shenandoah Retreat Subdivision
- Clarke County Sanitation Authority
- Grafton School and Treatment Center
Some of the potential sources of contamination and land uses of concern that were addressed in the Wellhead Protection Plans developed include:
- On-site wastewater treatment systems and septic systems
- Underground storage tanks
- Residential fertilizer, pesticide, and household chemical use and disposal
- Golf course fertilizer and chemical use
- Pool chemical storage and use
- Karst and sinkhole management
- Chemical storage and transport along highways and railways
