Preparing and Responding to Emergencies

Preparing and Responding to Emergencies

The VDH emergency preparedness and response programs involve state, regional and local emergency response partners working together to plan for potential emergencies and to respond to bioterrorism, infectious disease outbreaks and other public health emergencies.

VDH also licenses and offers technical assistance your hometown emergency responders such as fire departments, ambulances and paramedics to enable them to provide the highest quality emergency medical care to those in need.

For the most up-to-date information about breaking news or emergencies in your area, visit the VDH Newsroom.

How can you get involved? You can help by learning more about emergency response plans in your area and by preparing your home and family for various potential threats, including natural disasters such as hurricanes, or man-made incidents such as bioterrorism attacks. You can also volunteer with your local EMS agency to provide direct assistance to others in your community.
