The mission of the Division is to provide leadership and support to local health departments, other medical providers and community-based organizations in the prevention, surveillance and treatment of HIV, other sexually transmitted diseases, tuberculosis and other complications. We are dedicated to the provision of education, information, and health care services that promote and protect the health of all Virginians. New Health Communication Tool for Latinos
The Division of Disease Prevention is pleased to announce the release of a fotonovela addressing HIV among Latino communities. The Promise/La Promesa tells the story of Eduardo and Adela who face the challenge of Eduardo's HIV diagnosis. The fotonovela promotes HIV testing and treatment and addresses HIV stigma and homophobia. The Promise was developed as a collaborative project between HIV Prevention and HIV Care Services, and supported with federal funds from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Health Resources and Services Administration.
The document is in English on one side with the Spanish language version on the reverse. Initial orders are limited to 25 copies per agency due to a restricted print run; however, the pdf versions are available for download below. We hope to be able to print additional copies. A fact sheet on HIV among Latinos/Hispanics in Virginia has also been developed. Copies of the fotonovela may be ordered from the Virginia HIV/STD and Viral Hepatitis Hotline at 800-533-4148.
DDP welcomes your feedback on these materials. Comments should be directed to Elaine Martin at Elaine.Martin@vdh.virginia.gov.
