Quality Assurance
The VVFC Regional Consultants offer four types of visits:
- New Enrollment Visits: These visits are for newly enrolled providers in the VVFC program and offer basic VVFC program education. These site visits normally last under an hour.
- Quality Assurance Visit: These are the most common type of visit that the VVFC Consultants perform. Conducted yearly, these visits consist of a chart review, examination of vaccine storage and handling, and a quality assurance evaluation.
- AFIX Visit: These visits combine a Quality Assurance Visit with performing a mini Clinic/Provider Assessment Software Application (CASA). CASA is assessment software, developed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which is used to provide an analysis of the practice's vaccination rates.
- Educational Visit: While all site visits are educational, these visits are completed for groups who wish to learn more about immunizations in general or the VVFC program in general.
The VVFC program bases the quality assurance of providers that participate using eight standards of practice.
Standard 1: Patients are properly screened for VVFC Eligibility.
Standard 2: No limitations placed on patients receiving vaccines.
Standard 3: Vaccines are properly documented according to the National Childhood Vaccine Injury Act of 1986.
Standard 4: Providers question about contraindications and inform patient, parent or guardian of risks and benefits of vaccination to be received before administering vaccine.
Standard 5: Vaccines administered according to guidelines.
Standard 6: Provider makes every attempt to ensure all patients are up to date on immunizations.
Standard 7: Appropriate use and completion of all VVFC forms.
Standard 8: Vaccines are stored and monitored to ensure viability of the vaccine and proper use.
