Youth Risk Behavior Surveys

In the fall of 2012 the Virginia Department of Health’s Lord Fairfax Health District, in collaboration with the local school systems, administered the 2011 version of the YRBS to eighth and 11th grade students in the counties of Clarke, Frederick, Page and Warren, and the City of Winchester.  A middle school and high school report was generated for each of the participating school districts along with the LFHD wide summaries for each grade.

The Youth Risk Behavior Survey monitors six types of health-risk behaviors that contribute to the leading causes of death and disability among youth and adults, including:

  • Unintentional injuries and violence
  • Sexual behavior that contribute to unintended pregnancy and STDs, including HIV infection
  • Alcohol and other drug use
  • Tobacco use
  • Unhealthy dietary behaviors
  • Inadequate physical activity
