Vision

Volunteers Protecting Virginia's Health

Mission

Community volunteers prepared to support ongoing public health initiatives and emergencies in localities throughout Virginia.

Purpose

By design, all MRC units are local. The MRC initiative is built on the concept that communities can help themselves by organizing

volunteer resources from within.

Local MRC units:

Draw health professionals into service

Create a framework to match volunteers’

  skills with community needs
Enhance local emergency response

  efforts through training
Provide reserve capacity at the

community level to respond to local

  health needs and priorities

Medical Reserve Corps volunteers may include but are not limited to:

Public health professionals
Practicing, retired or otherwise employed  health professionals, such as doctors, nurses, emergency medical technicians, pharmacists, nurses’ assistants, and others (such as community health workers).
Non-medical volunteers, trained to assist in a health emergency

All members of a community are encouraged to volunteer in a manner that is appropriate to their skills and training. United States citizenship is not required to be part of a MRC unit.  Non-citizens who legally live in the United States are welcome to volunteer and contribute their time, knowledge and skills to protect and improve the communities where they live.
