Virginia EMS Compliance Manual

The State Board of Health is withdrawing outright, and reversing its adoption of, the following four sections of the EMS Regulations:

1. 12 VAC 5-31-610. Designated emergency response agency standards.

2. 12 VAC 5-31- 620. Designated emergency response agency staffing capability.

3. 12 VAC 5-31-730. EMS vehicle operational readiness.

4. 12 VAC 5-31-940. Drugs and substance abuse.

The Department of Health will begin the promulgation process anew to adopt provisions addressing the subjects of the four withdrawn sections, listed above.  

Re-adopting the following two sections, to become effective no earlier than fifteen days from publication of an appropriate notice in the Virginia Register:

1. 12 VAC 5-31-1030. Sexual harassment.

2. 12 VAC 5-31-1140. Provision of patient care documentation.

The Office of EMS will display notification of the effective date of these sections when the specific date is known.

Equipment List - 12 VAC 5-31-860 - Required equipment for a Nontransport Vehicle, Ground Ambulance, Air Ambulance, Neonatal Ambulance and includes the EMT-Enhanced Package and the EMT-Intermediate/Paramedic Package.

Recommended EMS Medications Schedule - A recommended listing of medications for use by all certified Virginia EMT levels, authorized by the Medical Control Committee of the Virginia EMS Advisory Board for both training and operational use.

Recommended EMS Skills Schedule - A recommended listing of skills for use by all certified Virginia EMT levels, authorized by the Medical Control Committee of the Virginia EMS Advisory Board for both training and operational use.

Virginia EMS Compliance Reference Manual - A collection of state and federal laws, regulations, and guidelines/policies referenced in compliance statements found in the Compliance Manual.

Internet Links - Links to government web sites that provide needed information to maintain compliance with the EMS Regulations.  (Note: You must have internet access to use these links.)

OSHA Fact Sheets - Documents to assist EMS Agencies in maintaining a safe work environment and compliance.  (Note: These files can be accessed from the Compliance Manual CD.)
