For assistance in locating other hotels, please contact the Norfolk Convention & Visitors Bureau at (800) 368-3097. Also note that the City of Norfolk charges a room tax of 13 percent plus $1/day for lodging.
Please note that symposium attendees are responsible for making their own hotel reservations. If you need special accommodations, please call the hotel where you have made reservations. The Office of EMS cannot make special accommodations for you.
Cancellations - The symposium registration fee will be refunded if requested in writing and received at the EMS Symposium Office by 5 p.m., Friday, Oct. 16, 2009. A $25 processing fee is charged for all cancellations.
No Smoking - All symposium activities, classes, exhibits and hallways are designated strictly non-smoking. Smoking is only allowed out of the conference center. Also, please refrain from using other tobacco products in class.
No Children in Classes - We are sorry but we must ask you not to bring infants or children to a symposium class. This can be disruptive to other participants and is a frequent request in symposium evaluations.
No Admittance if Late to Class - You must be in class for the entire time designated to earn your CEUs. If you arrive late, you will not be admitted.
Symposium participants can park at no charge for the entire symposium at the Harbor Park baseball stadium parking lot. Harbor Park is about four blocks from the Marriott and offers plenty of safe, lighted parking. Harbor Park parking permits will be available at the parking information booth located in the front lobby of the Norfolk Waterside Marriott. You will receive a parking permit to display on your dashboard, which can only be used at Harbor Park for the duration of symposium.
A shuttle service is being provided to take people from the Harbor Park lot to the Sheraton and the Marriott. Below is the schedule for the shuttle bus:
Wednesday & Thursday - 6:15 a.m. - 11 p.m.
Friday & Saturday - 6:15 a.m. - 1 a.m.
Sunday - 6:15 a.m. -2 p.m.
Also, the Norfolk Trolley, called the NET, runs every 15 minutes from Harbor Park to the Marriott. Please visit www.norfolk.gov/visitors/net.asp for additional information.
Please note that the parking is not for the parking garage, and is only for the designated area in the Harbor Park baseball stadium parking lot. More information will be available on site.
For Super Sunday, we’ve picked courses and instructors that we believe are “can’t miss”! There is at least one Super Sunday course per track. Enrollment limits have been lifted on Super Sunday, so pick whatever class you think sounds the best and we’ll see you there!
Rescue Camp for Youth is a fast paced and fun filled session for children ages 8 - 12. Training covers CPR, water rescue, basic first aid, personal safety, as well as ropes and repelling. Rescue Camp is sponsored by the Virginia Association of Volunteer Rescue Squads (VAVRS). Youth Rescue Camp is limited to 25 children.
The Teen Rescue Camp is an interactive, fast paced, fun session for youths ages 13-18. Training will cover areas such as CPR, basic first aid, water rescue, elements of the teen CERT course and moulage. Additionally, participants will create public safety messages to be used in their local areas. The teen rescue camp is sponsored in part by the Continuing Concepts in Prehospital Emergency Medicine conference. Teen Rescue Camp is limited to 36 teenagers.
Teen and Youth Classes meet from 8:15 a.m.-5:15 p.m., Friday, November 13 and Saturday, November 14, 2009. There is a $25 fee per child attending the rescue camps. Be sure to register while filling out your symposium registration form.

This is your chance to enter the Virginia Stars of Life Championship and take home the first place trophy. The Stars of Life Championship is an exciting, fast action, question and answer tournament that tests EMS professionals’ knowledge and speed. Competition format is head to head, three person teams playing for a big trophy and bragging rights. The tournament is bracket style, single elimination with seeding determined by preliminary matches (two preliminary and at least one championship bracket match). Questions are based on EMS trivia, textbooks and other resources as well as knowledge of ALS, BLS and Fire. Participants are encouraged to wear the uniform of their service or coordinated apparel. To sign your team up, register for EDU-506. Have fun and earn CEUs by competing in the Stars of Life Championship beginning at 7 p.m. Thursday, November 12. The evening will be hosted by Bob Page.
On Saturday, November 14, join us in celebrating the Commonwealth’s 2009 Governor’s EMS Award nominees. Dress to impress. After dinner, honor those who will be awarded the Governor’s EMS Awards and enjoy our hilarious guest speaker, Michael Perry.
Doors open at 6 p.m. The banquet begins at 6:30 p.m. and runs until 9 p.m. Each registrant may purchase a ticket for themselves at a discounted price and one additional ticket at $35. Tickets must be purchased at time of registration, please see the registration form for more details. Seating is limited, so register early to reserve your tickets.
