HandPRE-015 Moulage for Manikins: Taking Realism to Another Level

Moulage is the art of creating mock injuries for the purpose of training. Moulage for manikins prepares instructors to push their training technology even further. Come join this interactive, hands-on workshop to learn techniques and recipes for making mock injury goo, bodily fluids and unique injuries. Students will learn how to make pus, vomit, blood, sores, scabs, burns and eviscerations to enhance the use of manikins. Note: Cost for materials is $30 per student. Students should wear old clothing to class.

PRE-016 Operational Medical Directors Workshop

HandRunning ManPRE-017 Crisis Intervention Training for Behavioral Emergencies

Target Audience: All

The "deinstitutionalization" of mentally ill citizens, rising rates of substance abuse, and severe economic stressors have resulted in increasing the number and severity of behavioral health emergency calls for EMS providers. These crisis calls present providers with complex issues relating to mental illness and provider safety. Crisis Intervention Team training advocates a calm and humane approach to patients experiencing behavioral emergencies by giving responders techniques necessary to de-escalate the situation, making the scene safer for everyone. This training is hands-on, interactive and will force providers to stretch beyond their understanding of behavioral emergency response.

ADM-101 Getting Started with VPHIB's State Bridge

This class is focused on teaching members of EMS agencies to serve as their agency's system administrator. OEMS recommends each agency have more than one VPHIB administrator. Whether learning for the first time, or taking existing skills to the next level, this course will teach the basics for setting up and maintaining their agency in the VPHIB system. Students will learn how to perform the minimum functions required by OEMS and more. Students will also be exposed to the many optional functions that State Bridge offers to agencies such as tracking staff, training records management, performance improvements tools, communication tools, how to make a report from data submitted and more.

In addition to outlining strategy and tactics to secure the difficult airway, this hands-on difficult airway workshop will focus on procedural skills. HandPRE-020 Critical Care Skills Review

This session features four different skills review stations taught by subject matter experts, and will be hands-on intensive. The devices are intra-aortic balloon pumps (IABPs), left ventricular assist devices (LVADs), ventilators, and hemodynamic monitoring devices. The students will be expected to have a basic working knowledge of all devices ahead of time, but will have ample opportunity for hands-on training during the session.

Running ManPRE-021 Protecting the Protectors: EHS for Disaster Responder

Responders face a myriad of hazards at disaster scenes and potentially for a long period of time. Responders must maintain a level of situational awareness of these hazards and have proper training to mitigate them when possible. CAR-501 Post Cardiac Arrest Syndrome

CAR-502 Confounding ECG Patterns in Suspected ACS Patients

This fast-paced, interactive scenario-based class involves a school bus, its cargo and gangstas. How well do you know incident command and triage? Initially, participants will be assigned roles using NIMS incident command and triage, stressing the importance of maintaining one's assigned position. How well do you work with strangers? You will actively participate in an incident – school bus vs. gangstas. Who's who? Where are they and what will you do? The class will end with a short debriefing.

HandSPE-6001 Assessment for Pediatrics

HandAIR-201 RSI and Ventilation Based Airway Protocol Workshop

This class will emphasize the importance of ventilation over intubation. A well designed algorithm will be presented that, when used properly, can increase the safety of RSI. AIR-202 Foundations of Emergency Airway Management

The EMS provider is frequently called to transport a febrile child. Many of these children have simple viral illnesses. It is important to recognize those cases where the diagnosis is life threatening. This session will review some practical tips for fever management in the pre-hospital setting. The approach to emergency airway management continues to evolve quickly. As traditional intubation techniques come under increasing scrutiny new tools are being developed that make tracheal intubation and rapid safe ventilation more reliable. An algorithm that emphasizes a team-based approach to emergency ventilation will be presented. Participants will have an increased awareness of the pitfalls surrounding conventional intubation and will have an improved understanding of alternative airways. Ventilation based algorithms and alternative airways will make Rapid Sequence Intubation a safe and more available tool for ALS providers

AIR-204 Pulmonary Edema or Pneumonia: The Classic EMS Diagnosis

Determining the cause of respiratory distress can challenge even the most seasoned providers. Respiratory distress calls often require quickly sorting through multiple medical problems to select the most urgent and targeting treatment to ensure good patient outcomes. This lecture will discuss the pearls and pitfalls in prehospital assessment of respiratory distress patients.

TRA-7003 Resuscitation of the Trauma Patient

Severely injured and critically ill patients challenge the cognitive and psychomotor skills of even the seasoned provider. Responding to the patient with multi-system trauma requires a thorough understanding of the pathophysiology of shock. Identification of the early stages of shock will allow interventions that make a difference for the patient. Dr. Myers will present a systematic approach to recognizing and aggressively managing the multi-system trauma patient.
