Karen Lyons is the Program Administration Specialist for the Office of Minority Health and Health Equity. Londilia McCoy-Scott is her manager.
As the program administration specialist, Karen supports various office programs which includes, but not limited to the health workforce incentive programs, J-1 Visa Waiver/National Interest Wavier programs, processing scholarship and Small Hospital Improvement Plan (SHIP) applications.
Karen updates VA rural hospital database so that Primary Care and Rural hospitals will know all of the rural facilities and what they may qualify for in terms of funding for each fiscal year awarded. Karen continuously reviews and updates program manuals, request annual program report from small rural hospitals that are awarded each year as well as provide technical assistance to all programs, receive and review returned contracts for applicable signatures, and reviews SLRP(state loan repayment program) applicant’s applications for completeness. She communicates with J-1 Visa/NIW waiver physicians, attorneys and practice sites to ensure that all J-1 Visa waiver physicians are actively committing to their program obligations as required, well maintain and tracking this information in the database.
