The Commonwealth of Virginia offers incentive programs that will repay outstanding medical education debt in exchange for medical service in a medically underserved area. The purpose of the Loan Repayment Programs is to increase access in Virginia's underserved areas to primary care services. All information requested is used to evaluate candidate qualifications and suitability to participate in the program.

The Federal Virginia State Loan Repayment Program application cycle is OPEN and will close July 15, 2013.
NOTE: This opportunity requires a state dollar-for-dollar match by the community and/or practice site. Employers must be non-profit entities located in a health professional shortage area. For specific details, please call (804) 864-7435 or email incentiveprograms@vdh.virginia.gov.

The United States Department of Human Services (DHHS), Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), Bureau of Health Professions (BHPr), provides federal funding (up to $400,000 per year for a maximum of four years) for the Virginia State Loan Repayment Program (Grant number H56HP19792) and requires a dollar for dollar community match from a practice site or public/private entity. In addition, this program requires that the practice location be in a federally designated Health Professional Shortage Area (HPSA).
Currently, state funding is not available to administer this loan repayment program.
