Protecting Your Environment

Keeping your body healthy involves exercise, eating right and reducing your risk factors. An important part of keeping you healthy is ensuring that the water and food you ingest, and the area you live in are safe for you and your family.

Various environmental health offices work to inspect municipal drinking water supplies, regulate the installation of wells, ensure sewer systems are functioning properly, and to regulate the disposal of solid sewage waste. We also monitor sources of toxic pollution and radiation in your area.

Through a regular inspection program, VDH regulates restaurants throughout the Commonwealth to ensure they are handling food properly and works to ensure that commercial shellfish companies are providing you with a safe supply of seafood.
