Scheduling an Appointment

How to Schedule a COVID-19 Vaccine Appointment

CSHD is now offering “open” or public COVID-19 vaccine clinics for anyone who lives or works in the Central Shenandoah Health District and is age 12+. We now accept walk-ins at our CSHD vaccine clinics, however, appointments are preferred. Walk-in appointment availability is dependent on vaccine supply. Persons under the age of 18 will need parent/guardian on site.

Here is how you can schedule an appointment at a health department clinic:

  • Visit vaccineappointments.virginia.gov. This will take you to our scheduling platform PrepMod.
  • Search for nearby clinics using your zip code and the “Search Within” distance filter.
  • Schedule an appointment.

We update vaccineappointments.virginia.gov regularly with new clinics. You can also call your local health department office to schedule an appointment over the phone. Please reserve our phone lines for individuals who do not have access to the internet or a computer.

To search for clinics at pharmacies, local providers, community vaccination sites, or in other locations,  please visit vaccinate.virginia.gov or call 877-VAX-IN-VA (877-829-4682).

Second Dose Appointments

If you received your first dose at a CSHD clinic, there are three ways to schedule your 2nd dose appointment:

  • At your 1st dose clinic, there will be a QR code for you to scan with your smartphone and schedule your 2nd dose appointment.
  • If you don’t schedule your 2nd dose appointment at your 1st dose clinic, you will receive an email with registration information if you included an email address with your initial registration.
  • If you don’t have email or did not provide an email address, you will receive a phone call from our health department staff and they will help schedule you for your 2nd dose appointment.

If you are unable to make your corresponding second dose appointment or did not receive notification with the aforementioned methods, please follow the instructions below.

CSHD will post second dose clinics on vaccineappointments.virginia.gov. Spots are limited. Please continue to check back for more clinics. Walk-ins are welcome as supply allows.

When registering for a second dose appointment, please make sure to check the vaccine type that the clinic is administering and that it matches the vaccine type of your first dose. Please also read the “Additional Information” section for important information about the clinic.

Important Second Dose Information

The second dose of Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines should be administered as close to the recommended interval as possible, but not earlier than recommended (i.e. 21 days for Pfizer-BioNTech and 28 days for Moderna). However, second doses administered within a grace period of 4 days earlier than the recommended date for the second dose are still considered valid.

If it is not feasible to adhere to the recommended interval and a delay in vaccination is unavoidable, the second dose of Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines may be administered up to 6 weeks (42 days) after the first dose.

It is recommended that you complete your vaccine series regardless of the time in between your first and second dose.
