Welcome to the Virginia Dept of Health Distance Learning Program !
In today's fast-paced computer age, with unknown budget restrictions, on demand information is key to Virginia Department of Health employees.
We are committed to a program that will keep agency employees on the leading edge of distance learning information, technology, and resources.

Congratulations to the Division of Disease Prevention. They are the first within the Virginia Department of Health to follow distance learning standards, policies, and proceedures through the full life cycle. (Read below for more details and visit the links to see the design documents. The course is currently posted in TRAIN Virginia.)
The Division of Disease Prevention has embarked on a process to establish an annual Certification process for its Disease Intervention Specialist (DIS) staff and their supervisors. The concept is to ensure that their technical skills remain sharp and that they stay abreast of technology changes in their field. DIS staff are disease investigators who help patients and physicians manage STD or HIV infections, in addition to tracking the disease. Their work is very technical and constantly evolving.
There are four components to the annual certification process. Web based training is just one component and consists of courses designed to target each of the DIS and supervisors’ KSAs (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities).

The Office of Health Policy and Planning is using TRAIN to register people for the Language Proficiency Test for those interested in participating in the "Interpreting in Health & Community Settings" course. The Language Proficiency Test is the gateway to entering the medical interpretation class, which is in turn geared towards building capacity within the state of Virginia for culturally & linguistically appropriate health services.
Interested individuals, after completing the Language Proficiency Test, may also use TRAIN to register for the actual "Interpreting in Health & Community Settings" course.
The Office of Health Policy and Planning is in the process of setting up Investigator 101 IRB training through TRAIN as well, but is currently working on the formatting problems.
