Waterborne Hazards Control

Main Page PictureThe mission of the Waterborne Hazards Control Program is the prevention and control of water-related health problems in Virginia. We accomplish this by investigating reports of illnesses related to water exposure, conducting epidemiological studies to determine risk factors for waterborne illnesses, contributing to the development of water-related policies and regulations, and maintaining databases on water related illnesses, and water quality.

Key program areas include harmful algal bloom surveillance and beach monitoring. Program activities are accomplished in collaboration with other state and federal agencies to address water-related health hazards.
