Anish Jantrania, Ph.D., with the Department of Health discusses research objectives with Ray Reneau, Ph.D., a professor of agronomy with Virginia Tech. This is a research site in Wise County where Dr. Reneau is evaluating the use of selected fill material on strip mined land and is also evaluating constructed wetland performance and spray irrigation.
On the right is a close-up of a homemade dosing device used to load systems with known quantities of effluent. While it may not look fancy, we’ve benefited from the high quality data Virginia Tech has provided at a reasonable cost.
This view shows a site where research is being conducted on controlled fill material applied over strip mined spoil test site. The behive-like devices protect test equipment. This research is being funded by the Powell River Project, not VDH. We are however, benefiting from the results.
