Epidemiology uses surveillance, the ongoing systematic collection of disease data, to obtain a thorough understanding and analysis of disease patterns, with the goal of reducing the burden of disease in communities. For tuberculosis (TB), epidemiology helps us understand who in the population has developed TB disease, what risk factors these individuals possess, and where TB disease is most prevalent.
