This interactive workshop will help healthcare workers become more sensitive to intercultural communication differences. Participants will also learn about communication behaviors that can interfere with effective intercultural communication, as well as the stages people go through as they adjust to other cultures. Dr. Tatyana Thweatt, PhD, Director of the Office for Language & Cultural Competence, VCU School of World Studies, will serve as the speaker. This lecture is free and open to all.

Ryland R. Roane, Jr., Health Educator in the Division of HIV/STD at the Virginia Department of Health, will discuss the changing demographics of HIV infection in Virginia. Living as an HIV positive health professional, Mr. Roane offers unique insight on care for HIV patients. Mr. Roane serves on a variety of boards and committees including the Multicultural Health Taskforce, the Community Testing & Minority AIDS Project. This lecture is free and open to all.
