The Office of Minority Health and Public Health Policy contributes to the development of health policy through a wide range of analyses and research concerning the cost, quality, and accessibility o
f healthcare in the Commonwealth.
The Office of Minority Health and Public Health Policy:
- Analyzes legislation, develops and conducts legislative studies, and is involved in regulatory development and promulgation through the development or revision of regulations in the Virginia Administrative Code.
- Coordinates Healthy Virginians 2010 which seeks to identify important aspects to the health and well-being of Virginians during the next ten years and to offer a series of recommendations to establish and improve health targets.
- Manages the Virginia State Planning Grant which seeks to gather important information about the uninsured population in Virginia; solicit stakeholder input about the feasibility of various models and their strategies for increasing health care coverage; and make recommendations to the Governor and the Secretary of Health and Human Resources regarding strategies for reducing the State's uninsured population.
- Staffs the VDH Institutional Review Board to ensure that the rights and welfare of human subjects involved in any research that is conducted by VDH, by outside investigators in collaboration with VDH, or by outside investigators using VDH data are protected and consistent with both State and Federal regulations.
