How We Contribute
The Office of Minority Health and Public Health Policy contributes to the development of health policy through a wide range of analyses and research concerning the cost, quality and accessibility o
f healthcare and the magnitude and distribution of health inequities in the Commonwealth.
The Office of Minority Health and Public Health Policy:
- Analyzes legislation, develops and conducts legislative studies, and is involved in regulatory development and promulgation through the development or revision of regulations in the Virginia Administrative Code.
- Coordinates Healthy Virginians 2010 which seeks to identify important aspects to the health and well-being of Virginians during the next 10 years and to offer a series of recommendations to establish and improve health targets.
- Identifies “high priority target areas” using spatial clustering techniques (such as hotspot analysis, kernel density and predictive kriging) to discover areas where adverse social conditions and health outcomes intersect with health care provider shortages to the detriment of the local community.
- Staffs the VDH Institutional Review Board to ensure that the rights and welfare of human subjects involved in any research that is conducted by VDH, by outside investigators in collaboration with VDH, or by outside investigators using VDH data are protected and consistent with both State and Federal regulations.
