Virginia Medical Scholarship Program

Scholarship opportunity is no longer active

The Commonwealth of Virginia no longer offers this scholarship opportunity. For any current recipient of this program, please refer to the Frequently Asked Questions before calling the office. Thank you for your cooperation.

All current recipients completing their last year of residency can expect to hear from the Office of Minority Health and Public Health Policy (OMHPHP) regarding repayment options.

The Commonwealth of Virginia offered the Virginia Medical Scholarship as an incentive to those medical students who made a commitment to provide primary care medical services in a medically underserved area in Virginia. The purpose of the Virginia Medical Scholarship Program was to increase access in Virginia's underserved areas to primary care services. This recruitment initiative was successful in recruiting medical students to the primary care specialties of medicine.

The Commonwealth of Virginia thanks all Virginia Medical Scholarship recipients who served, and is still serving, those most in need of primary health care.
