This multi-disciplinary team includes physicians and representatives from state and local agencies who provide services to families and children or who may be involved in the investigation of child deaths.
Membership
The Team is chaired by the Chief Medical Examiner and includes the following persons or their designees:
- Commissioner of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services
- Program Manager for Child Protective Services, Virginia Department of Social Services
- Superintendent of Public Instruction
- State Registrar of Vital Records
- Director of Criminal Justice Services
Representatives of the following are appointed by the Governor to serve for three-year terms:
- Local Law Enforcement
- Local Fire Department
- Local Departments of Social Services
- Local Emergency Medical Services
- Local Commonwealth’s Attorney
- Local Community Services Board
- Medical Society of Virginia
- Virginia College of Emergency Physicians
- Virginia Pediatric Society
- Virginia Sudden Infant Death Syndrome Alliance
In addition, special advisors are appointed to the Team based on their area of expertise:
- Child Advocacy
- Child Psychiatrist
- Forensic Pathologist
- Injury Prevention
- Juvenile Justice
- Women and Infant’s Health
