Health Education

Mount Rogers Health District’s Health Education program focuses on promoting healthy lifestyles and healthy communities by providing needs assessments and developing teaching materials based on findings.  Health information is available to the public through health fairs, community and worksite events, and education programs for the public and area groups.  The Health Educator serves as an information resource to the media regarding health initiatives and awareness issues.

A major focus of the Health Education program is smoking cessation and tobacco use prevention. The Mount Rogers Health District is currently working closely with the Alliance for the Prevention and Treatment of Nicotine Addiction and Tobacco Use Control Project, conducting a fax-referral project, and providing services to help individuals to quit tobacco using Virginia’s toll free quitline:
