The Greater Prince William Medical Reserve Corps is a cadre of volunteer health care professionals and community members trained to respond and assist with public health events in Prince William County, the cities of Manassas, Manassas Park, and the towns of Dumfries, Haymarket, Quantico, and Occoquan. This unit is one of approximately 800 units that are part of the national Medical Reserve Corps program under the direction of the Office of the U. S. Surgeon General and 1 of 31 in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
The Greater Prince William Medical Reserve Corps recruits for practicing, retired or otherwise employed medical professionals, as well as community members with non-medical skills. Physicians, pharmacists, nurses, epidemiologists, dentists, and paramedics are just a sampling of the medical community that has been tapped for service. Clergy, translators, administrative assistants, IT personnel, and other members without a medical background are encouraged to consider becoming a part of our unit.
Membership in the Greater Prince William Medical Reserve Corps requires the following:
A. Completed and up to date application in Virginia Volunteer Health System.
B. Copy of driver’s license and any professional license (if applicable).
C. Approved background check.
D. Volunteer orientation and initial training.
E. Participation in drills, exercises, trainings, or clinics at least twice a year.
F. Most importantly participate in any community health event that occurs.
Once the initial orientation and training is completed, the Greater Prince William MRC member will be able to attend a variety of training and volunteer opportunities that are offered during the year.
