Job Opportunities

County Captains:

The County Captain team acts as a liaison between the MRC Unit Coordinator and approved Southwest Virginia Medical Reserve Corps volunteers from the “Captains’” home county/city, especially during critical times of emergency response. They also are lead volunteer of community events (such as Drug Take Backs, community health fairs, Family Fun Days, etc) and help to build volunteer relationships with the organization as a whole.

County Captains:  The County Captain team for the Southwest Virginia Medical Reserve Corps is growing. Currently, team members are being sought in Buchanan, Dickenson, Lee, Russell, Scott, Bland, Wythe, Grayson, Carroll and Cities of Bristol and Galax.

Throw-Back Thursday Manager: 

2014 is the 10th Year Anniversary for the Southwest Virginia Medical Reserve Corps and fortunately over the past 10 years a bunch of pictures have been taken which document the Unit’s activities.  For 2014, a volunteer is needed to take on a “Virtual Volunteer” job and post a photo to Twitter and Facebook each Thursday in 2014.  The volunteer will be provided all of the pictures; they must have access to a computer and be comfortable posting to both Facebook and Twitter; and they must adhere to the Social Media policy of the Southwest Virginia Medical Reserve Corps. Volunteers interested in being a part of this virtual volunteer experience should contact Kristina Morris as soon as possible. 

Volunteer Team Opportunities

Social Media Support Team: 

By utilizing social media outlets, these team members will engage & inform volunteers during emergencies, promote activities and build awareness of the Southwest Virginia Medical Reserve Corps.  This virtual volunteer opportunity will be monitored and managed by the Unit Coordinator who will work with the team members to clarify any message or information that is being shared. Currently this includes Facebook and Twitter. 

Mass Fatality Response Team: 

This team is made up of MRC volunteers from around the Commonwealth.  The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, Office of Emergency Preparedness and the Virginia Medical Reserve Corps has established MRC Mass Fatality Response Teams.  Volunteers can support: 1) family assistance center operations, 2) morgue/ scene operations, and 3) both operational units.  Inclusion in this team requires background check, completion of Introduction to Mass Fatality, ICS-100 & IS-700a, as well as, the completion of three courses at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Roanoke.
