(MARION, Va.) – First United Methodist Church and the Mount Rogers Health District (Virginia Department of Health) will host REVIVE! training on Monday, August 5 at 115 S. Church St. in Marion. This training is free and open to the public. It takes approximately one hour.

Classes will be offered at 9:30 a.m., 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. For advance online registration, visit www.surveymonkey.com/r/YL3RSLB. The training also is offered throughout the day on a drop-in basis.

REVIVE! teaches people how to administer naloxone, a life-saving medication used to reverse the effects of an opioid overdose. No formal medical knowledge or background is needed. Everyone should consider being trained, especially those with loved ones experiencing addiction, and people who use opioids. Free Narcan© (a brand name for naloxone) will be available to those who complete the training

“Knowing how to use naloxone and keeping it within reach can save a life,” said U.S. Surgeon General Jerome Adams, M.D.

REVIVE! training is for patients taking prescribed opioids, health care practitioners and community members who may come into contact with people at risk for opioid overdose, as well as for those misusing prescription opioids or using illicit opioids such as heroin or fentanyl, and family and friends of people with an opioid use disorder.

“I encourage everyone to attend this training, especially those who have a loved one experiencing addiction, or people who use opioids,” said Breanne Forbes Hubbard, population health manager, Mount Rogers Health District. “We look forward to training our community on this critical intervention.”
