Local Health Departments to Host Hepatitis A Vaccine Clinics on May 20

(Charlottesville, Va.) – In honor of Hepatitis Awareness Month, Thomas Jefferson Health District (TJHD) health departments will offer Hepatitis A vaccine clinics on Monday, May 20, 2019 from 9:00 to 11:30 a.m. Hepatitis A vaccines will be free or low cost and are for people over age 18. The vaccines will be available at all TJHD health departments on a walk-in basis.
The Charlottesville/Albemarle Health Department will designate their clinics on Monday, May 20, 2019 to only offering Hepatitis A vaccines in the morning from 9:00 to 11:30 a.m. and will offer free testing for Hepatitis B and C and other STIs on Monday, May 20th from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Testing will be provided on a walk-in basis.

Hepatitis A, B, and C are the most common types of viral hepatitis in the United States. Hepatitis A is a highly contagious disease that attacks the liver. The number of Hepatitis A cases in Virginia more than doubled in the first quarter of 2019 compared to the first quarter in 2018. Hepatitis A and B can be prevented by getting vaccinated.
