Virginia Center Commons hosts regional H1N1 vaccination clinic

(RICHMOND, Va.)—To help ensure a happy and healthy holiday season, the Virginia Department of Health is partnering with Virginia Center Commons to provide free H1N1 influenza vaccination to the public on Wednesday, Dec. 23, between 3 p.m. and 9 p.m.

“The Virginia Department of Health is working with many partners this holiday season to make vaccine available in a variety of ways and in many sites,” said State Health Commissioner Karen Remley, MD, MBA. “Combining shopping with an H1N1 vaccination helps busy people stay healthy during this time when we want to be able to enjoy ourselves with our families and loved ones.”

The clinic will be held in the shopping mall, located at 10101 Brook Road in Glen Allen, near the Sears department store.

To avoid long lines, a “fast pass” system will be utilized.  Patrons will be able to pick up a fast pass at the clinic site in the mall beginning at 8 a.m. on Wednesday.  The fast pass will show the time that the individual may return to the clinic to receive the vaccine.  There will be 50 passes issued for each 15-minute time slot between 3 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.

Commissioner Remley and Virginia Secretary of Health and Human Resources Marilyn B. Tavenner will make remarks at a news conference when the clinic kicks off at 3 p.m.

The H1N1 vaccination clinic is a collaborative project between VDH, Virginia Center Commons, the health departments in the City of Richmond and Hanover, Henrico and Chesterfield counties, the Henrico Division of Fire, the Henrico Division of Police and the Henrico Sheriff’s Office.
