Vaccinate & Vote: Seasonal Flu Shots at Election Day Clinics in Salem, New Castle and Roanoke City

November 1, 2010

(Roanoke, VA) – The Roanoke City & Alleghany Health Districts will offer seasonal flu vaccine to everyone ages six months and up, at three clinics on Tuesday, Nov. 2:

  • Salem Civic Center, 1001 Roanoke Blvd., Salem, 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Craig County Middle/High School Cafeteria, 25239 Craig’s Creek Rd., New Castle, 1:30 to 7 p.m.
  • Roanoke City Health Department, 1502 Williamson Rd., Roanoke, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

All community members are welcome to participate. Vaccine is available on a first-come, first-served basis. All insurances are accepted and there will be no charge for those without a payment source. Those under age 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

“The best way to protect you and your family from flu is to get the flu vaccine. We are working to make it convenient for you, so don’t miss these opportunities! Get vaccinated now,” reminds Stephanie Harper, M.D., director of the Roanoke City and Alleghany Health Districts.

“The vaccine is effective and safe; since viruses in a flu shot have been killed, they cannot cause the flu,” continued Dr. Harper. “Like all vaccines, it stimulates the immune system to protect you against the flu, but does not cause the flu.”
