Traveling for Spring Break? There are some things you need to know about Zika! Zika is a disease primarily spread by mosquitoes, but Zika can also be passed through sex from a person who has Zika to his or her sex partners.

Before you go:

  • Check the latest travel recommendations from the CDC https://goo.gl/sxAK0f
  • Pack insect repellent, long sleeved shirts and pants, bed net (if mosquitoes can get to where you are sleeping) and protection (if you might have sex)

While you are there:

  • Use insect repellent (remember to apply sunscreen first!) or cover exposed skin
  • Remember that Zika can be spread through sex, so always use protection if you have sex
  • Use a bed net if you are sleeping somewhere that is not screened in or doesn’t have air conditioning

When you get back:

  • Monitor yourself for symptoms of Zika and call your healthcare provider immediately if you think you may have Zika
  • Use insect repellent for three weeks after you get back
  • Continue to use protection if you have sex
