Pregnancy Assistance Fund

Pregnancy Assistance Fund (PAF)

The Pregnancy Assistance Fund (PAF) Grant provided support to colleges and universities throughout Virginia to establish Offices of Pregnant and Parenting Student Support (OPPSS). These on-campus centers provided resource information and referrals for health, social services and educational supports to enrolled students ages 18-29 that are expecting or parenting a young child under 5.

Information, assistance and referrals provided included tutoring and mentoring services, academic planning, career planning, prenatal and parenting support, nutrition counseling, Medicaid and FAMIS enrollment, Healthy Start, access to housing, access to quality childcare and available employment programs. With increased and targeted assistance, students were encouraged to maintain their educational aspirations while successfully balancing their new role as parents.

As of August 31, 2013 federal funding provided by the US Department of Health & Human Services Office of Adolescent Health to support implementation of the PAF grant in the state of Virginia expired. Subsequently, all campus-based OPPSS facilities were closed. Please contact please contact Ardrienne Stuart at (804) 864-7755
