Maternal, Infant and Adolescent Oral Health Program

Overview and Training

Overview

The purpose of the Maternal, Infant, and Adolescent Oral Health Program is to plan, develop and implement training and educational programming regarding perinatal and infant oral health and to integrate topics related to oral health into programs that target adolescents.
Statewide Program Services:

• Support home visitors, community health workers and other client support workers in educating their clients on the benefits of oral health and to coordinate oral care
• Provide training to dental and non-dental professionals on the importance of oral health care for overall wellness with the goal of improving access to oral health care for pregnant women and infants
• Develop new programming specifically aimed at advancing the oral health of adolescents
• Update the School-aged Oral Health Curriculum to include emerging topics for adolescents including vaping and HPV exposure and vaccination
• Collaborate with key internal and external partners and local stakeholders to maximize reach and effectiveness of oral health messaging for pregnant women, infants and adolescents

Medicaid continues to “provide dental services to pregnant women age 21 and over enrolled in Medicaid and FAMIS MOMS”. All benefits, including dental benefits, for pregnant women who are 21 years and older will be discontinued at the end of the month following the 60th day postpartum.
