Candidate Guidelines
Thank you for your interest in practice opportunities in Virginia. We look forward to assisting with your search. In order for you to receive maximum assistance with your search, it is important that you review and comply with the following guidelines. Failure to comply may result in our inability to assist you with your search.
How Our Service Works
If you are interested in pursuing a position from the opportunities listing, you must complete the following steps:
- Register by completing the Candidate Interview Form.
- Email ppova.recruitment@vdh.virginia.gov your CV as a Microsoft Word document.
- Email ppova.recruitment@vdh.virginia.gov with the position numbers for jobs that interest you.
- Our staff will forward your CV to the sites you have selected. You may request your CV to be sent to as many practice opportunities as you like.
- A representative from the practice site will contact you directly if they are interested.
Who can apply?
All licensed health care professionals in primary care specialties (Family Physicians, General Internists, OB/GYN, Pediatricians) and mental health specialties, Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners, and other categories that may be included on the list of opportunities.
When to apply?
Advertised positions are available immediately unless otherwise indicated. Therefore, in order to apply for a position listed on our website, you must be available to begin working within 9-12 months.
Your responsibilities
All candidates must:
- Inform PPOVA.org of your availability and when you accept a position.
- Maintain ongoing contact with PPOVA.org. (Failure to contact PPOVA.org within six (6) months from the time you first apply will result in removal from your files).
- Respond to communications from PPOVA in a timely manner. (Failure to do so may result in removal of your CV from our files.)
CV Requirements
Your CV should not exceed 3 pages in length. (Please note that practice sites prefer a short CV for initial review). Your CV should include your name & page number on each page. The following information MUST be included:
- Personal Information
- Date of Availability
- Education, including residency program(s)
- Employment History
- Licensure/Certification (with State(s) and License Number)
It is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that the following information be included:
- Language capabilities (some sites are looking for multilingual candidates)
- Specialty skills, such as management, reimbursement, etc.
The following items are optional:
- Honors and Achievements
- Research/Publications
- Professional Organizations
- Volunteer Experience
You may use the Sample CV as a guideline for structuring your own. Please submit your CV in Microsoft Word format to ppova.recruitment@vdh.virginia.gov.
PPOVA Responsibilities
PPOVA will
- Respond to individuals who are using our site in accordance with applicable guidelines.
- Respond to receipt of e-mail communication within three business days of receipt.
- Respond to phone inquiries within three business days of receipt.
The popularity of the PPOVA.org web site means that it may take time to assist in filing placement opportunities. Your patience is greatly appreciated. In addition, we reserve the right to prioritize its services to areas determined to have critical professional shortages.
