Individuals may apply for classified positions that offer a variety of benefits, or for hourly positions with no benefits that are restricted to 1,500 work hours in a 365-calendar-day period.

Library of Virginia Offers Assistance

With so many job openings being posted only online and the Virginia Employment Commission encouraging those seeking unemployment insurance to use their online services (http://www.vec.virginia.gov/vecportal/unins/insunemp.cfm#olui), the Library of Virginia has offered to help. On Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:30 to 1:30 staff members of the Library of Virginia (www.lva.virginia.gov) will be on hand in their first floor computer lab to assist those who are either looking for a job or filing for unemployment insurance. Library staff cannot provide career counseling or unemployment information but will be glad to assist with online employment applications.

The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) is dedicated to promoting and protecting the health of Virginians and offers valuable public health experience while you earn your degree.

The Virginia Department of Health (VDH), which celebrated its centennial in 2008, offers paid and unpaid internships to students working toward a degree.

• Work while you are gaining practical application in your area of study
• Work with a VDH supervisor to help you apply your studies to your work

• Placements are open to college students pursuing undergraduate or graduate degrees.
• Internships are available in the Central Office in Richmond or in district offices throughout the state (placements in Arlington and Fairfax are made through those departments).
• Anyone seeking a Dietetic Internship, please consult the WIC program webpage.
