VDH Office of Human Resources facilitates the hiring process for the Virginia Department of Health's (VDH) statewide Central Office in Richmond and 35 local health districts. Individuals may apply for classified positions that offer a variety of benefits, or for hourly positions with no benefits that are restricted to 1,500 work hours in a 365-calendar-day period.

As an added convenience, you can now copy and paste much of the information requested in our new Web-based application from an electronic version of your paper application. VirginiaJobs also has other features that will improve your application experience with us. It allows you to track your progress in the hiring process, see the status of the position(s) for which you have applied, and update your application online. You can even access the system at any time (24 hours a day, 7 days a week) from any Internet connection.

Library of Virginia Offers Assistance

With so many job openings being posted only online and the Virginia Employment Commission encouraging those seeking unemployment insurance to use their online services (http://www.vec.virginia.gov/vecportal/unins/insunemp.cfm#olui), the Library of Virginia has offered to help. On Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:30 to 1:30 staff members of the Library of Virginia (www.lva.virginia.gov) will be on hand in their first floor computer lab to assist those who are either looking for a job or filing for unemployment insurance. Library staff cannot provide career counseling or unemployment information but will be glad to assist with online employment applications.

  5. When would you like your internship to begin and end?  
  6. In which area(s) of public health are you most interested?
  7. A current resume

This information will be forwarded to managers in VDH offices and districts that match your interests and geographic preference. You will be contacted if a manager wishes to arrange for an interview.
