Staff Contributes to Statewide Opioid Planning Effort

Several VDH staff attended the Comprehensive Opioid Abuse (CARA) Planning Grant Regional Mini-Cross Systems Mapping event on Oct. 31 in Warrenton. The daylong workshop brought together a variety of agency representatives to share their experiences, ideas and concerns in order to improve programs and services for individuals with opioid use disorders in the Criminal Justice System. This was the final of five CARA sessions held across the state, which were held to develop a statewide plan that improves cross system collaboration, expands the use of alternatives to incarceration, and promotes evidence-based programs and strategies that engage individuals in treatment and recovery. Thanks to Rappahannock-Rapidan Health District Population Health Coordinator April Achter, Northwest Region Health Emergency Coordinator Michael Keatts and Northern Region Public Information Officer Lorrie Andrew-Spear for attending and contributing to the conversation.
