WIC helps women and children get the nutrition services and foods that they need to stay healthy!

WIC is a special, supplemental nutrition program for Women,

Infants and Children sponsored by the United States Department of Agriculture.

WIC is a nutrition program that helps mothers and young children stay healthy and eat right. WIC can even help make your baby smarter. WIC helps Women, Infants and Children during times of important growth. Research has shown that being in WIC can help lower a baby’s chances of being born with health problems. Studies also show that WIC can help a baby develop better mentally.

Do I qualify for WIC?

The WIC Program helps:

  • Infants from birth to age 1
  • Children up until they turn 5 years old
  • Women who are pregnant, breastfeeding and postpartum

You must be a member of one of these categories to receive WIC benefits.

In order to receive WIC benefits in Virginia, you must have proof that you live in the State of Virginia.

Proof of residence includes:

  • Utility bills
  • Rent/ mortgage receipts
  • Medicaid card
  • Virginia driver’s license
  • TANF/Welfare photo ID

You must also be financially eligible

Your income must be at or below 185% of the federal poverty guidelines. The income limits are higher than you may think! It all depends on your yearly income and the number of people in your household. You must provide proof of your income to your local WIC office.

Proof of income includes:

  • Medicaid card
  • The pay stubs of all the people in the household
  • A TANF printout with case number
  • SNAP
  • Notice of Eligibility
  • This year’s W-2 form of income tax return
