CHILDHOOD IMMUNIZATIONS

Don't Wait, Vaccinate!

The State of Virginia requires that children must be up-to-date on physicals and immunizations for school and for learning virtually. The Richmond City District, Henrico County Health Department and their partners have developed materials to assist parents in making informed choices about vaccination. You can protect your child from preventable diseases by making sure they get their immunizations on time. Please bring your child's immunization record with you for the appointment.

About the Immunization Program

Through this program, the Health District seeks to ensure that every child in the Greater Richmond Region is fully immunized against infectious diseases by the age of four. Immunizations include required school shots, flu shots, and vaccination for other infectious diseases. In addition, the immunization program engages in educational outreach efforts such as classes and health fairs in order to communicate the importance of immunizations.

ADULT IMMUNIZATIONS

Focus on Flu

Get your flu shot this year to stay healthy—getting the flu wears your immune system down, which is not a good thing in times of COVID-19! Flu vaccines will be more available than ever this year. Protect the vulnerable and get your shot!

Five great reasons to get your flu shot:

  • Flu vaccination can keep you from getting sick with flu.
  • Flu vaccination can reduce the risk of flu-associated hospitalization for children, working age adults, and older adults.
  • Flu vaccination is an important preventive tool for people with chronic health conditions.
  • Flu vaccination helps protect women during and after pregnancy.
  • Flu vaccine can be life-saving in children.

To learn more about the health benefits of flu shots, see the CDC's What are the benefits of flu vaccination?
