Background
The AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP) is supported through a combination of State and Federal funding. The Department of Health first received Federal HIV funds in 1987 for the purpose of purchasing zidovudine (AZT), the only antiretroviral available at that time for HIV treatment. The General Assembly first appropriated State funding for HIV medication in 1990.
