Virginia HIV/STD/Viral Hepatitis Hotline (800) 533-4148

The Virginia HIV/STD/Viral Hepatitis Hotline provides statewide toll-free lines staffed by trained counselors to answer questions and provide crisis intervention, referrals and written educational materials regarding Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs), HIV and AIDS.

The Hotline operates Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. During the hours the Hotline is not personally answered, a recorded message refers callers to:

HIV/STD Literature Requests

The Hotline mails out informational pamphlets, brochures and posters to groups, individuals and organizations. If you are interested in receiving some of these free brochures or posters, fill out the HIV/STD Literature Request From found in the print edition of the Quarterly Surveillance Report or call the HIV/STD/Viral Hepatitis Hotline at the number listed below. In addition, an on-line version of this form is available. In order to access this form, you must have the Adobe Acrobat Reader (TM) free software program. Download a free copy of the Adobe Acrobat Reader now. If you have the software, click on the HIV/STD Literature Request Form, print it out and either mail or fax it to the address provided on the form.

Virginia HIV/AIDS Resource and Referral List

The Virginia HIV/AIDS Resource and Referral List includes for each region of Virginia, as well as nationwide resources, information about testing, medical services, mental services, legal services, hospices, AIDS Service Organizations (ASOs), and other information that you would need to know if you are HIV positive.

The Virginia Transgender Resource and Referral List includes resources and information on providers offering medical care; hormone therapy; support and counseling services; mental health care; legal services; and other resources for the transgender community in Virginia.

If you are a provider and are interested in being included on the Transgender Resource and Referral List, please print out, complete, and return the Transgender Resource and Referral Form to the address or fax found on the form.

2004 Hotline Statistics:

  • Hotline staff answered more than 2,762 calls.
  • Hotline staff mailed more than 807,488 pamphlets.
  • The most frequently asked question was: Where do you go for HIV testing?
  • Most callers obtained the Hotline phone number from the phone book.
