Vaccines are only available at the Charlottesville\/Albemarle Health Department. If you believe you are eligible for a mpox vaccination, please\u00a0<b class=\"x_x_ContentPasted0\">call 434-972-6269 to schedule an appointment for your mpox vaccine.<\/b><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #333399\"><strong>What is mpox?<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<p>Mpox, first discovered in 1958, is a disease caused by infection with the mpox virus. Cases of mpox have been identified in the United States, including Virginia. VDH and BRHD are monitoring the spread closely and will provide updates as they become available.<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #333399\"><strong>Symptoms of mpox can include:<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<ul class=\"cc-md-2 mb-1\">\n<li>Fever<\/li>\n<li>Headache<\/li>\n<li>Muscle aches and backache<\/li>\n<li>Swollen lymph nodes<\/li>\n<li>Chills<\/li>\n<li>Exhaustion<\/li>\n<li>A rash that can look like pimples or blisters that appears on the face, inside the mouth, and on other parts of the body, like the hands, feet, chest, genitals, or anus.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The rash goes through different stages before healing completely. The illness typically lasts 2-4 weeks. Sometimes, people get a rash first, followed by other symptoms. Others only experience a rash.<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #333399\"><strong>Monkeypox can spread from person-to-person through:<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Direct contact with the infectious rash, scabs, or body fluids<\/li>\n<li>Respiratory secretions during prolonged, face-to-face contact, or during intimate physical contact, such as kissing, cuddling, or sex<\/li>\n<li>Touching items (such as clothing or linens) that previously touched the infectious rash or body fluids<\/li>\n<li>Pregnant people can spread the virus to their fetus through the placenta<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you suspect you may be infected with or been exposed to mpox, call ahead to your medical provider before visiting them in-person.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>For more information on mpox, visit the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/mpox\/\">CDC website<\/a>.<\/strong><\/h4>\n<h4><strong>For information on mpox in Virginia, visit the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/surveillance-and-investigation\/monkeypox\/\">VDH website<\/a> or call the VDH hotline at 877-829-4682.<\/strong><\/h4>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Mpox Vaccines in BRHD Blue Ridge Health District (BRHD) is\u00a0working to ensure that\u00a0residents who are eligible\u00a0and\/or have been\u00a0exposed or are at high risk of being exposed\u00a0to mpox receive a vaccination.
