Institutions of Higher Education

Colleges and universities should follow CDC Guidance for Institutions of Higher Education to promote the health and safety of students, faculty, staff, and visitors during the COVID-19 pandemic.

To protect everyone in your educational community, encourage vaccination. Encourage all community members to get vaccinated against COVID-19 and stay up to date on COVID-19 vaccines by going to Vaccinate.Virginia.gov or calling 1-877-VAX-IN-VA.  Access your vaccine record with a QR code.

Encourage students and staff to check the COVID-19 Community Level  to find out what prevention measures are currently recommended.

Effective March 23, 2022, the Virginia Standard for Infectious Disease Prevention of the SARS-CoV-2 Virus That Causes COVID-19 ("Virginia Standard"), 16VAC25-220, is no longer in effect. See DOLI Announcements for further COVID-19 updates and guidance from the Virginia Department of Labor and Industry.

Colleges and universities may voluntarily report suspected outbreaks of COVID-19 or other outbreak situations by calling their local health department. The VDH online reporting portal is also available to report known or suspected outbreaks.

Physicians and persons in charge of a medical facility (including university and student health centers) should continue to report suspected and confirmed cases of disease, according to the Virginia Regulations for Disease Reporting and Control.
