Challenge Candidates began on January 1, 2023.\u00a0 The Virginia Psychomotor Competency Verification process is described below:<\/p>\n<p>Candidates for Legal Recognition, Challenge and Reentry in Virginia will need to have their psychomotor competency verified by an Education Coordinator.\u00a0 The redacted version of psychomotor competency guidance document can be found <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2023\/02\/PUBLIC-REDACTED-WEB-VERSION-BLS-Psychomotor-Competency-Verification-Guidance-for-Legal-Rec-Reentry-Challenge-2-1-23.pdf\">by clicking here<\/a>.\u00a0 Educators can find the non-redacted version in the Education Coordinator Village on <a href=\"https:\/\/moodle.oems.vaems.org\/login\/index.php\">Moodle<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>Starting the Process<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Candidate Completes <em><strong>T<a href=\"https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2022\/12\/TR-21-Application-for-BLS-Psychomotor-Competency-Verification-Final.pdf\">R\u201021 \u2013<\/a><\/strong><\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2022\/12\/TR-21-Application-for-BLS-Psychomotor-Competency-Verification-Final.pdf\"><b><i> Application for BLS Psychomotor Competency Verification<\/i><\/b><\/a> and submits it to an Education Coordinator.\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/emergency-medical-services\/education-certification\/educator-resources\/terminal-competency-psychomotor-exam-date-request-nemses\/directory-of-sites-conducting-emt-competency-verifications\/\">Click here to see a list of entities<\/a>\u00a0conducting competency verification exams.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>An Education Coordinator from an approved testing site submits<a href=\"https:\/\/forms.cloud.microsoft\/Pages\/ResponsePage.aspx?id=qeUKYsFOoE-GQV2fOGxzCZWOcPqmDRFBqF-nGGwWQEBUQUNGUEk2VVVIVUlCUUdET0JIOVlROEZOViQlQCN0PWcu\"> request to OEMS<\/a> for scenarios to use in the process.\n<ul>\n<li>OEMS transmits scenarios to EC via secure e-mail.<\/li>\n<li>Time limit to access will be turned on.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>The Education Coordinator gathers necessary equipment and personnel.<\/li>\n<li>The Education Coordinator conducts Psychomotor Competency Verification exam.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>Required Psychomotor Exams<\/h3>\n<p>The Virginia Psychomotor Skills Verification shall consist of the following:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>One (1), fifteen (15) minute scenario comprising of a medical topic.<\/li>\n<li>One (1), fifteen (15) minute scenario comprising of a trauma topic.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The pool of OEMS approved scenarios for this specific competency verification has been reviewed and approved for use by the state Medical Director.<\/p>\n<h3><b>Evaluation Methodology &amp; Requirements<\/b><\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>The Educator shall prepare the patient, Professional EMT Partner and the evaluator (if not the Educator themselves) with the instructions provided in Appendices C-F of this document.<\/li>\n<li>At all times, the evaluation must be as objective as possible.<\/li>\n<li>The evaluator shall use form <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2023\/02\/TR-20-Virginia-Psychomotor-Exam-Scenario-Evaluation-Final.pdf\"><b><i>TR20 &#8211; Virginia Competency-Based Psychomotor Scenario Evaluation<\/i><\/b><\/a> to appraise the candidate\u2019s performance.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3><b>Personnel &amp; Equipment<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>Per OEMS policy, the following personnel and equipment are required for this exam process.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Equipment<\/strong> &#8211; Requisite equipment for selected scenario, decoy equipment is encouraged.<\/li>\n<li><strong>An Evaluator<\/strong> \u2013 this individual is responsible <em>for completing the Virginia Terminal Psychomotor Scenario Evaluation<\/em> for each candidate.<\/li>\n<li><strong>A patient<\/strong> \u2013 moulaged, if necessary patient actor<\/li>\n<li><strong>A Professional EMT Partner<\/strong> \u2013 an individual who is an EMT or above. This individual can perform any tasks needed by the testing candidate.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>Permitted Test Attempts<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ol>\n<li><strong>First Attempt<\/strong>\n<ol>\n<li>If both scenarios are <strong><em>PASSED<\/em><\/strong> on the first attempt, then the candidate passes. The candidate will be notified of this by e-mail from the Office of EMS.<\/li>\n<li>If one or both scenarios are <strong><em>FAILED <\/em><\/strong>on the first attempt, then the candidate will then move to their second attempt. The second attempt will consist of two (2) scenarios, however the candidate is not guaranteed the same scenarios on their second attempt. The candidate will be notified of this by e-mail from the Office of EMS.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Second Attempt<\/strong>\n<ol>\n<li>If both scenarios are <strong><em>PASSED<\/em><\/strong> on the second attempt, then the candidate passes. The candidate will be notified of this by e-mail from the Office of EMS.<\/li>\n<li>If one or both scenarios are <strong><em>FAILED<\/em><\/strong> on the second attempt, then the candidate will then be permitted a third and final attempt at the exam. The third attempt will consist of two (2) scenarios, however the candidate is not guaranteed the same scenarios on their first or second attempt. The candidate will be notified of this by e-mail from the Office of EMS.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Third Attempt<\/strong>\n<ol>\n<li>If both scenarios are <strong><em>PASSED <\/em><\/strong>on the third attempt, then the candidate.
