Norovirus Resources

Norovirus is a very contagious virus that causes a sudden onset of nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.

It is sometimes called the "stomach flu" or the "stomach bug"; however, the virus that causes norovirus illness is not related to the flu virus. Norovirus causes acute gastroenteritis, an inflammation of the stomach and intestines. Norovirus is the leading cause of vomiting and diarrhea, and foodborne illness in the United States. Every year, usually in the winter, Virginia sees an increase in reports of gastrointestinal illness, usually in the winter.

On this page, you will find resources about norovirus illness including a communication toolkit, an educational video, and a fact sheet.
