This may include chemicals in the eye, on skin, or directly inhaled chemical dust or vapors.\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pool chemicals are used to help protect swimmers by disinfecting water and killing germs that may cause disease. However, if used or handled improperly, pool chemicals can be harmful. Pool chemicals can injure people when mixed together or when appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is not used when handling them.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Pool chemicals<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> may include:<\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chlorine\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bromine<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Salts\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Acids or Bases\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Compressed gas<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sanitizers and Disinfectants<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pool chemicals can cause <\/span><b>injury <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to:<\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Skin<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Eyes<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Respiratory tract<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Digestive system<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pool chemicals can come in <\/span><b>contact <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">with people by:<\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Direct contact<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Inhalation<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dust<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Contamination of food or drink\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pool operator should know how all of the chemicals used and stored onsite. If you have any questions about the chemicals used at a pool, ask the owner or operator. not water to chemicals.\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Improper mixing can result in a reaction and may cause toxic gas, fire or an explosion.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">NEVER add pool chemicals when the pool is in use, and only add them poolside as directed by the product label.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Designate tools per chemical - If you do, take extra care to make sure they aren\u2019t mixed with other chemicals, trash or debris during cleanup. If they are accidentally mixed, it could cause a reaction.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Follow cleanup instructions outlined on the chemical labels.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Use proper materials and equipment for cleanup. This may include absorbent pads, absorbent granules or other chemical specific materials.\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Make sure there are proper clean up materials stored nearby.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Have EMS\/Fire\/Emergency Response contact information posted near chemical storage areas. Know your location and the chemicals used when calling for assistance.<\/li>\n<li><strong>When in doubt, call your pool maintenance professional!<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>If in an emergency, Call
