VDH encourages providers to use commercial laboratories, but this testing is\u00a0<b><i>not<\/i><\/b>\u00a0free<b>.<\/b>\u00a0The laboratories will bill private insurance, Medicaid, or Medicare for all testing performed. Providers may find the relevant CPT code for Monkeypox virus testing on each commercial laboratory\u2019s website. Providers who encounter any issues while trying to order testing should contact the laboratory\u2019s client services.<\/p>\n<p>Public health testing through the Division of Consolidated Laboratory Services (DCLS) continues to be available at no cost for patients who meet\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/poxvirus\/monkeypox\/clinicians\/case-definition.html\">clinical and epidemiologic criteria<\/a>; providers should consult with their\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/local-health-districts\/\">LHD<\/a>\u00a0about this testing.<\/p>\n<h3>Labs Conducting Testing and Either JYNNEOS or ACAM2000 can be used for Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP), Expanded PEP (i.e., PEP++), or Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP), following risk-benefit discussions and a review of conditions that could increase risk for serious adverse events. At this time, JYNNEOS is the primary vaccine used in Virginia for prevention of monkeypox.<\/p>\n<p>Please see the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/poxvirus\/monkeypox\/considerations-for-monkeypox-vaccination.html#vaccine-strategies\">CDC Considerations for Monkeypox Vaccination Guidance<\/a>\u00a0for detailed information about these strategies.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/monkeypox\/healthcare-providers\/vaccine-guidance\/#pep\">PEP<\/a>:\u00a0Vaccination after a known monkeypox exposure for those who meet certain\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/poxvirus\/monkeypox\/clinicians\/monitoring.html\">risk criteria<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/monkeypox\/healthcare-providers\/vaccine-guidance\/#expanded-pep\">PEP++:<\/a>\u00a0Vaccination of people with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1ZxQp1RsDKZkWCZzBouCLi0eMdiHLJ4hO2fUgoZdqZtA\/edit#bookmark=id.hchrkquzauwa\">certain risk factors<\/a>\u00a0who are more likely to have been recently exposed to monkeypox, but do not have a documented known exposure<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/monkeypox\/healthcare-providers\/vaccine-guidance\/#prep\">PrEP<\/a>:\u00a0Vaccination of those at high risk for coming in contact with monkeypox virus, such as laboratory workers performing monkeypox diagnostic testing<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"panel-28-4-0-1\" class=\"so-panel widget widget_sow-editor\" data-index=\"7\">\n<div id=\"pep\" class=\"panel-widget-style panel-widget-style-for-28-4-0-1\">\n<div class=\"so-widget-sow-editor so-widget-sow-editor-base\">\n<div class=\"siteorigin-widget-tinymce textwidget\">\n<h3>Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP)<\/h3>\n<p>Following exposure of a confirmed monkeypox case, the CDC recommends that the vaccine be given as soon as possible after exposure, preferably\u00a0within 4 days.<\/p>\n<p><b>Consider vaccine for PEP in the following situations:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>During days 0-4 after exposure for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/poxvirus\/monkeypox\/clinicians\/monitoring.html\">intermediate- and high-risk contacts<\/a>\u00a0to prevent onset of disease.\u00a0<b>The sooner an exposed person gets the vaccine, the better.<\/b><\/li>\n<li>During days 4-14 after the exposure for high-risk contacts. Vaccination may reduce the symptoms of disease, but may not prevent the disease.<\/li>\n<li>During days 4-14 after the exposure for intermediate-risk contacts, informed decision making is recommended on an individual basis to determine whether benefits of PEP outweigh the risks.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"panel-28-4-0-2\" class=\"so-panel widget widget_sow-editor\" data-index=\"8\">\n<div id=\"expanded-pep\" class=\"panel-widget-style panel-widget-style-for-28-4-0-2\">\n<div class=\"so-widget-sow-editor so-widget-sow-editor-base\">\n<div class=\"siteorigin-widget-tinymce textwidget\">\n<h3>Expanded PEP (PEP++)<\/h3>\n<p>Healthcare providers should work with their local health district to refer eligible patients for vaccination. Vaccine supply is currently limited, however, as additional vaccine supply becomes available, vaccines may become available directly to certain providers who work closely with high risk populations. One signed 1572 per facility suffices for all tecovirimat treatments administered under the EA-IND at the same facility.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/poxvirus\/monkeypox\/pdf\/Attachment-1-Informed-Consent.pdf\"><b>Informed consent<\/b><\/a>. Obtain prior to treatment.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/poxvirus\/monkeypox\/pdf\/Attachment-2-Form-A-Patient-Intake-Form.pdf\"><b>Patient intake form<\/b><\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/poxvirus\/monkeypox\/pdf\/Attachment-2-Form-B-Clinical-Outcome-Form.pdf\"><b>Clinical Outcome Form<\/b><\/a>.
