This includes people who had contact with potentially infected sick or dead birds, livestock, or other animals within 10 days before symptom onset.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">If avian influenza virus infection is suspected or confirmed in any patient:<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span data-contrast=\"none\">Isolate the patient\u202fand follow\u202f<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/bird-flu\/hcp\/novel-flu-infection-control\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">infection control recommendations<\/span><\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"none\">, including using PPE. Standard, contact, and airborne precautions, including the use of eye protection, are recommended.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-contrast=\"none\">Initiate\u202f<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/bird-flu\/hcp\/novel-av-treatment-guidance\/index.html\"><span data-contrast=\"none\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">antiviral treatment<\/span><\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u202fwith oseltamivir\u00a0<\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">as soon as possible<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0without waiting for the results of influenza testing.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-contrast=\"none\">Immediately contact LFHD<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">. They can coordinate testing with the Virginia Department of Consolidated Laboratory Services (DCLS) if needed.
