Since 1999, when the Virginia General Assembly enacted legislation supporting this important work, twenty local or regional <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2016\/07\/DVFRT-Listing-July-2016.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">domestic violence fatality review teams<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2016\/07\/DVFRT-Listing.docx\">\u00a0<\/a><\/em> (DVFRTs) have been established in the Commonwealth.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Bedford County Domestic Violence Fatality Review Team<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Chesterfield County Intimate Partner &amp; Collectively, they have served as leaders or members of domestic violence task forces, Coordinated Community Response Teams (CCRs), and Domestic Violence Advisory Boards. In addition, members: train domestic violence professionals at local, state, and national conferences; contribute to the growing body of domestic violence research; and they are awarded local and state recognition for their domestic violence prevention efforts.<\/p>\n<p>The following thoughts on domestic violence fatality review reflect the first-hand experience of some Virginia DVFRTs:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em><strong>&#8220;With all the funding cutbacks, fatality review is especially important because it helps us better utilize community systems, and get the most out of the resources we&#8217;ve got.&#8221; &#8211; <\/strong>Norfolk Domestic Violence Fatality Review Team<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em><strong>&#8220;A fatality review team is a critical component in coordinating a community&#8217;s response to domestic violence. The team focuses on the needs endemic to the community and will result in strengthened victim services.&#8221;\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; <\/em><em>Washington\/Bristol DVFRT<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong><em>&#8220;Establishing a domestic violence fatality review team in our county has enhanced communications and coordination among key stakeholders that interact with victims and perpetrators. More specifically, the case review process has enabled practitioners in our community to better understand their individual and collective roles in responding to domestic violence.&#8221;\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><em>&#8211; Fairfax Domestic Violence Fatality Review Team<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em><strong>&#8220;The work we have accomplished through our fatality review team is significant.
