Crater Health District Continues Partnership with Virginia State University

(Petersburg, Va.) – The Virginia Department of Health’s Crater Health District continues to collaborate with Virginia State University (VSU) and will hold a second dose COVID-19 vaccination clinic Saturday, March 13. All available appointments are for second doses only.

This closed “point of dispensing” (POD) event is to provide second doses ONLY FOR THOSE WHO RECEIVED THE FIRST DOSES THROUGH Crater Health District (CHD) SCHOOL PODS. We will NOT have enough doses or staffing to give any first doses, or to vaccinate other individuals. We ask all who are to be vaccinated to please wear ‘vaccine ready’ clothing if possible (giving easy access to your upper arm) and that you arrive at your appointed time.

“Virginia State University provides a great location as we continue to vaccinate our community,” said Dr. Alton Hart, Jr Health Director, Crater Health District.  “Getting shots in the arms of residents is our main priority and we appreciate the partnership and resources that VSU is offering for vaccination clinics.”

Last weekend, CHD conducted 838 first and second dose vaccinations at VSU’s Multipurpose Center for Crater residents. VSU provided the facility, security, and golf cart service to transport those who need special assistance from the parking lot to the venue.  The site provided convenient location, ample parking, and excellent vaccination site logistical flow.  In addition, VSU offered exceptional staff and volunteers to support vaccination efforts at the clinic.

Collaborative and ongoing efforts are under way to vaccinate those in Phases 1a and 1b who are most at risk of falling ill with COVID-19 across the CHD.

For those interested in receiving a COVID-19 vaccination, individuals should pre-register for a future vaccine clinic, at www.vaccinate.virginia.gov or the COVID Vaccine Hotline at 1-877-VAX-IN-VA (1-877-829-4682).
