Henrico Health District Urges Self-Quarantine after Potential COVID-19 Exposure at Local Restaurant

(Glen Allen, Virginia)  — The Henrico County Health Department (HCHD) is investigating a cluster of COVID-19 infections associated with a live music event at a local Henrico establishment.  HCHD is working closely with the establishment and is evaluating whether potential COVID-19 exposures beyond that date may have taken place.

Individuals who attended the live music event Friday, October 9, 2020, at JJ’s Grille (10298 Staples Mill Road) might have been exposed to the virus that causes COVID-19.  HCHD recommends that those individuals immediately stay home and away from others for 14 days (until October 24), monitor for symptoms of COVID-19, and consider being tested for COVID-19 infection.

While there have been no reported cases of exposure associated with live music or group events held on dates before October 9, HCHD is still evaluating the potential for further exposures and would recommend that individuals who have visited the establishment after October 9 monitor for symptoms and consider being tested for COVID-19 infection.

Symptoms of COVID-19 infection can include fever, cough, shortness of breath, sore throat, headache, chills, muscle pain, or new loss of taste or smell. Individuals who develop symptoms concerning for COVID-19 infection should contact their medical provider and seek out testing for COVID-19. Anyone with chest pain or shortness of breath should call or text 911 immediately.

If you do not have a medical provider or insurance, free testing is available through the health district at any of our upcoming community testing events (see www.vdh.virginia.gov/richmond-city/ for a full listing, or call (804) 205-3501).  Other testing sites can be found at www.vdh.virginia.gov/richmond-city/richmond-and-henrico-area-covid-19-testing-sites/.

Individuals in self-quarantine should stay home, avoid having guests visit them, not share items like towels and plates, stay at least 6 feet away from others, and wear a mask when around people who have not had the same exposure.  More information can be found at www.vdh.virginia.gov/coronavirus/local-exposure/.

JJ’s Grille and HCHD continue to work closely together to protect the health of the establishment’s patrons and our community.  For questions about this press release, please contact HCHD at (804) 501-4656. More information about COVID-19 can be found at www.vdh.virginia.gov/richmond-city and www.vdh.virginia.gov/coronavirus.
